We are seeking an Upstream Associate Scientist II / Scientist I to be based out of our HQ in Piscataway, NJ.

 

Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

 

This position involves development of small scale and scale-up procedures for production of clinical and/or commercial biosimilar products in bacterial and mammalian cell cultures. The position will apply a scientific background and expertise in Cell Culture to perform, analyze and document experiments. Candidate will be responsible for supporting other scientists for the optimization of procedures for growth and productivity in cell culture, and modification of existing procedures to meet project requirements. The successful candidate executes and analyzes routine experiments with minimal oversight, and occasionally executes complex experiments in team setting with daily interaction with team. Candidate is responsible for the analysis of experimental data in conjunction with the team or supervisor. Presents work at lab group meetings, and functional area meetings. Will also assist in making improvements in equipment, software, and workflow to develop and improve various processes within Cell Culture.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of scalable processes such as bacterial and mammalian cell culture and harvest processes for upstream process development.
  • Assist efforts to evaluate different cell culture media, feeds, and optimal feeding strategies to improve product yield and quality.
  • Generate, manage, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner in the form of notebooks and reports.
  • Perform data analysis of process statistics, identify process deviations, and prepare technical reports.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory.
  • Support development of technical solutions to problems and exchange technical information with team members for troubleshooting and providing ongoing support.
  • Participate in technology transfer of processes from Upstream Process Development group to Manufacturing
  • Gain an understanding of standards of practice, process science and departmental policies and adhere to the company and department policies.
  • Assists in new technology innovation projects, development of new processes and development of project scope and deliverables for execution and implementation.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • PhD with 0 years of experience or MS with 2-4 years of experience or BS with 4-6 years of experience with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or in a life science discipline such as Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Microbiology is preferred
  • Knowledge in cell culture development and bioreactor operation is flexible and ability to work in a fast paced environment with a tight timeline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Intermediate computer skills using MS Office (Word, Excel) preferred.
  • Task and Team-oriented, self-motivated and ability to multi-task.
  • cGMP manufacturing experience Is preferred

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in bench and pilot scale bioreactor operation preferred
